A collaboration between Society Social and Ariel Okin launched this week and we are completely smitten. The collection is called “The New Traditionalist” and it is, in fact, what rattan and grasscloth dreams are made of if you ask us.
Society Social is an online retailer (who additionally, recently opened an amazing brick and mortar shop) who is known for producing quality, custom pieces at an accessible price point. Founder, Roxy Te, grew up surrounded by the production of custom furniture, spending most of her time at her family’s own furniture factory. Te, continuing her family’s legacy, later went on to establish Society Social and attributes their avoidance of large retail markups to their “privately owned family factories in Cebu, Philippines and Conover, North Carolina” who “have been manufacturing since the early ’80s and are vertically integrated.”
Ariel Okin, is a New York City based interior designer whose aesthetic we have long been fans of. You will almost always find a mix of traditional and contemporary elements within Okin’s projects, similar to ours, “with a focus on elegant, livable spaces.” “Texture, pattern, clean lines, and a mix of bespoke and antique items are hallmarks of her aesthetic.” This is reflected in her designs with Society Social, which is filled with modern yet custom “heirloom” looking pieces.
Society Social’s pieces are light and airy and consist of textured raffia tables to faux bamboo pieces as well as rattan and cane mirrors and this new collaboration is no exception. They describe the collection’s feel as “A look that evokes the comfort of home, a soft ode to the classics,” and a “fresh take on traditional design.”
Although we are loving each piece from the line, a few of our very favorites include the “Amy” scalloped console, the “Benny” Rattan Console and last but not least, the “Sophie” Swivel. Be sure to visit the website to view the full collection and product information and let us know your picks!
