Designers often refer to ceilings as 5th walls but there is a lesser utilized design tactic which can make an even bigger impact. The floor is considered the 6th wall and can be the most transformative element in a room.
One of the most common techniques is painting wood floors. By doing this the classic feel of the space is maintained while simultaneously bringing in an updated and “outside the box” element.
Another variation of painted floors is maintaining the look of tile by painting floors to replicate that of classic tile patterns. This can also be seen in the form of harlequins and checkered flooring.
There are endless inspiration images representing variations of styles to incorporate a 6th wall online. We hope you enjoyed just a few of our favorites!
