If it is a book of any kind about manners we are in, but when it is a book about manners written by Marie-Chantal, the Crown Princess of Greece, we are most certainly reading it from cover to cover.
While one might assume an etiquette book written by royalty might be stuffy, this book is quite the contrary. With the foreword written by Tory Burch, this book is filled with practical and “modern” etiquette for families, as the title suggests. We have to believe that as a princess, Marie-Chantal is very well-versed when it comes to manners and overall etiquette, but as a mother of five and creator of an incredibly popular parenting blog, there is no doubt in our minds she knows the ropes. In addition to maintaining royal status (and all that it entails), raising five lovely children and running a blog, she is also the creator of her eponymous children’s clothing line. If we could get our hands on a “how-to” written by Chantal for every other facet of life, we would undoubtedly purchase them in an instant.
When describing redecorating their family home in London, Chantal mentioned that the reason she chose to work with her interior designer was because he had “a specific style, which I’ve always liked — not too fussy, rich or overwhelming.” That quote offers the perfect description of the kind of advice offered in the book, a truly modern take on etiquette that eliminates the “fussiness” often associated with this type of guide.
In addition to our own appreciation and many purchases to gift, the book has received an abundant amount of praise but including Town & Country’s review, stating “When in doubt..ask a princess! Because even royals have to contend with social media gaffes and dinner guests doing paleo. Royalty has some unreliable standards of etiquette, but Marie-Chantal of Greece is also a working mother of five and now an author.”
